natAmour® Calanus oil – unique omega-3 oil with wax esters, policosanols and astaxanthin
The oil is extracted from Calanus finmarchicus, a copepod that occurs en masse in the zooplankton of the oceans. The oil extracted from Calanus finmarchicus has its characteristic red color due to the fat-soluble red-orange carotenoid pigment astaxanthin, which is often found in marine life.
This red oil is rich in a special form of omega-3 fatty acids. Instead of the triglyceride and phospholipid forms of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) found in fish oils, the omega-3 fatty acids in calanus oil are present as wax esters. This gives Calanus oil a unique biochemical composition compared to conventional oils such as fish oil or krill oil.
This unique composition of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in the form of wax esters in Calanus oil provides a special source of important omega-3 fatty acids (DHA/EPA).
